Applicability & limits
Restricted to vehicles before the bulletin's plant-specific production VIN cutoffs. No automatic UK/EU, Prius Plug-in or other-model applicability. Check current Toyota information for the exact vehicle; this is a decision guide, not a repair or flashing procedure.

01
Start with the qualifying inspection
On covered vehicles, Toyota identifies separated PCV/purge-VSV lines as one explanation for P0A0F, sometimes accompanied by P3190, P3191 or P0171. Inspect their seating at the throttle body and purge VSV. If all are seated correctly, Toyota directs normal repair-manual diagnosis instead of this bulletin's repair route.[toyota]
The codes identify a question to investigate. They do not, by themselves, establish which component needs replacing.[toyota]
02
If separation is confirmed
The bulletin's route includes securing displaced lines, replacing the purge VSV and checking/updating ECM calibration as required. It explicitly excludes ECM replacement. Reconnecting a hose alone is therefore not the complete documented remedy.[toyota]
Use the current vehicle-specific service procedure and appropriate hybrid-service precautions. This article supplies no access instructions, test limits or flash settings.[toyota]
03
Make the repair decision auditable
Use three separate entries in the job record: applicability checked; condition observed; repair decision. This is an editorial recording method, not an additional Toyota test.[toyota][evidence-guide]
For applicability, record the service-information reference used and whether the vehicle matches its scope. For condition, write what you actually observed, including anything you could not inspect. For the decision, explain which evidence justified the next action.[toyota][evidence-guide]
A useful handover should let another technician see where certainty ends. If identification or inspection is incomplete, record that gap rather than translating it into either a passed test or a failed part. See the related evidence-capture guide for the information to preserve before making changes.[toyota][evidence-guide]

Bring the next question into MechNostic
MechNostic accepts vehicle details, symptoms, fault codes and scanner photographs. Use it to organise your findings and discuss the next diagnostic question; verify extracted text against the original image.[mechnostic]
Suggested prompt: Here are the confirmed vehicle details, full codes and my inspection findings. Separate observations from hypotheses, identify any missing evidence, and explain what would change the next diagnostic decision.[mechnostic]
Do not include customer names or contact details in a shared example. Keep vehicle testing and current manufacturer information central to the decision.[mechnostic]
